Sunday Mba laments he made a career mistake

His beautiful strike ensured that the Super Eagles defeated the then stars -studded Elephants of Cote d Ivoire 2-1 to book a place in the semi finals of the 2013 AFCON and he saved the best for the last with his wonderful goal against Bourkina Faso in the final that crowned Nigeria champions of Africa for the third time.

That was Sunday Mba in action for the Super Eagles. Just six years ago, he was the cynosure of all eyes, the new kid on the block for the Super Eagles, many European football clubs in France, Germany, England, Belgium, Italy etc were after his signature. He did play for two clubs in Europe after his heroic feat at the South Africa 2013 AFCON.

The former Warri Wolves player signed for CA Bastia of France in 2014 and he played for the French side 43 times , scoring 5 goals before moving to Turkey in 2015 to ply his trade with Yeni Malatyaspor. He played 54 times and he had 8 goals to his credit for the Turkish side.

But today, Mba is back in Nigeria after being clubless for two years. He now trains with some amateur players at Apo Senior Secondary school field or Garki market field all in Abuja to keep fit.

How did he get here? What happened to Nigerias 2013 AFCON hero, Sunday Mba? Some questions that the former Enugu Rangers player answered in an exclusive chat withOpera News Hubin Abuja.

"It is a long story. Football can be funny, it can be cruel at times. I made some mistakes with my decisions thinking that i made the right decisions and it turned out bad, Sunday Mba toldOpera News Hub in Abuja.

"Some of the decisions we make as footballers can turn out to be good or bad, but life goes on. I feel good, still pushing, still working hard and glad that i am physically fit," he added.

Ahead of the January transfer window in Europe, Mba said he is very optimistic of making a move back to Europe .

"I look forward to the Janaury transfer window with great expectations. I am looking at anywhere that is good for me that i can play football. It is very important for me," he said.

When asked if he thinks of coming back to play in Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

He answered : "For now, playing in Nigeria league is out of it. Not sure that i really want to come back to play professional football in Nigeria.

What if the financial package is very good. Teams like Kano Pillars, Akwa Utd and Rivers United pay their players very well, Opera News Hubasked further.

He replied : "Well, i may have to think about that if such offers comes, but to be frank with you, it will be difficult for me to play again in Nigeria league for now.

At a time where most upcoming Nigerian players wants to play professionally abroad with top clubs in Europe, Mba said that they must be careful not to make any mistake that will take their career to the slide and they must work very hard to succeed in Europe.

"Upcoming players must avoid making mistakes that will take their career to the downfall. Young players must work hard to succeed in Europe.

"Even when clubs signs you in Europe, you must work hard to remain relevant in the club. There is no short cut to success than to work hard," he concluded.
