14-Year-Old Girl Raped and Killed in Shamli

In a tragic incident, the police have reported on Tuesday that a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangled to death in Shamli district

According to Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari, the girl's body was found in an agricultural field in Kailshikapur village, which comes under the jurisdiction of Gahripukhta police station, on Monday evening.

He said it appeared that she was strangulated to death with her "dupatta" after rape.

Based on a complaint lodged by the girl's parents, the police launched a probe into the incident.

In the complaint, they said their daughter had gone to bring lunch for her father and since then, she had been missing, Tiwari said.

The teenager's body was sent for postmortem, he said, adding that a case was registered in the matter.

This is not the first time a heinous crime against minors came to the fore. Last month, a 12-year-old girl was sexually abused for over two years by 30 people, including her father. The incident came to light in Kerala's Malappuram. The girl is a Class 7 student.

Locals alerted the Parents’ Teachers’ Association members of the school where she was studying and the teachers started noticing that she was constantly missing her classes. Soon, the information was handed over to child-line authorities.

When volunteers at the child-line counselled the minor, she revealed horrific details of sexual harassment.

“In connection with the incident, Tirurangadi police have charged case under various sections of Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and took two persons, including the girl’s father,” said a report by The Times of India.

She was reportedly produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after the disclosure. On September 22, the police registered a case in the matter and the minor was produced before the magistrate.

Anwar Karakkadan of Child-line Malappuram told the media that the girl was the only child in the family, and they were staying in a rented house. He said that the girl has revealed that there were frequent visitors in their home, including her father’s friends, and the numbers would increase during school holidays. She was also forced to skip school.
