Buhari approved state, LGs police Following agitations from different quotas in the country for establishment of state and Local Government police, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday finally approved it. He also approved the dismissal of 37 police officers as recommended by the National Human Rights Commission Presidential Special Panel on SARS Reforms. This was contained in the statement by the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission and Chairman Presidential Panel on SARS Reform, Anthony Ojukwu, during the submission of report of the Presidential Panel on the reform of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Nigeria Police, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The Panel according to Ojukwu received 113 complaints on alleged human rights violations from across the country and 22 memoranda on suggestions on how to reform and restructure SARS and the Nigeria Police in general. BREAKING: IGP announces new squad, ‘SWAT’ to replace SARS The Inspector-General of police, Mohammed Adamu has set up a new unit to replace the dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The police boss announced the new formation of the unit 48 hours after he dissolved SARS following a nationwide outrage. In a statement on Tuesday, Frank Mba, force spokesman, said the IGP had ordered all personnel of the disbanded SARS to report at force headquarters in Abuja for debriefing. “The Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A. Adamu, NPM, mni has, today, 13th October, 2020, in accordance with Section 18 (10) of the Police Act 2020, ordered all personnel of the defunct SARS to report at the Force Headquarters, Abuja for debriefing, psychological and medical examination.
